Being Your Own Cheerleader

There will be times in your life that others won't be able to show up for you. They may be caught up with their own challenges or aren't equipped emotionally to support you. You may feel isolated and alone because of this. Feelings may come up that you've never felt before. You will want to lean on others for support. But the truth is, it's time for you to show up for yourself and be your own cheerleader!

Showing up for yourself means holding space for yourself, allowing yourself to feel the uncomfortable feelings, process them, and empower yourself to move forward. It's time for you to show yourself loving kindness and grace. By these actions, you are telling your mind, body, and soul that you acknowledge them, you're not giving up on them, and you're now in a place to take care of yourself. Yes, that's right-- you! You have the power within yourself to free yourself from despair, confusion, guilt, and shame, and allow yourself to listen to your feelings and needs and make the necessary steps to move forward and empower yourself.

Below are some ways to show up for yourself. Be creative and do what feels good for you.

  • Sit quietly in your own space to allow yourself to feel your body, hear what it needs, and take action to adjust and make yourself feel at peace. It's not about ignoring your problems but it's allowing yourself to feel the pain and uncomfortable feelings to acknowledge them and proceed to move forward.

  • Utilize guided meditation or imagery to walk you through being alone with your thoughts. Remember, this will feel uncomfortable at first because you are left with your thoughts (Scary!). But you are now empowered to do so. It will be okay.

  • Get physical! With stress, it brings about a lot of tension. Trying jump roping, dancing in your living room, or jumping on a trampoline. Do something out of the ordinary to release that tension and find your place of peace and joy. Remember, there are no quick fixes but the more you start showing up for yourself, the better you will feel.
