We can’t change the past, but we can change the 'imprints' that trauma has left on our mind, body, and soul. I think of an imprint as a marking that leaves a stamp or has influence over you; it makes changes to your whole body. To generalize trauma, it is a negative event that causes a disturbance resulting in an emotional response. Trauma is very complex, and many people don’t define their disturbing experience as trauma. Typically, people will reach out for support when they start to identify new symptoms or not able to move on from their situation. Symptoms of trauma include the fear of losing control, always being on alert for danger or rejection, flashbacks, and unable to fully open your heart to another person. Trauma really does rob us of having a fully functionable life if you don’t manage it. Trauma creeps up in unexpected times and if you’re not aware of trauma and know how to cope, it can cause more damage overall to your mind and body.
